Lincoln City to Astoria
The northern section starts at Lincoln City and follows Highway 101 as far north as Astoria. Towns included along this part of the trip include:
Tillamook
Highway 101 temporarily leaves the beach and comes inland to the city of Tillamook. Famous for its cheese, be sure to stop at the visitor center. The Tillamook Air Museum is housed in a World War II Blimp Hangar that is one of the largest wooden structures in the world. Experience the maritime heritage of the area at the Garibaldi Museum.
Rockaway Beach
There are seven miles of sandy beach from the center of town, with shops, restaurants, vacation rentals, motels and a variety of beach activities available.
Cannon Beach
Haystack Rock is a famous landmark. Other attractions readily reached from town include Ecola State Park, Indian and Crescent Beaches, the Bird Rocks and Silver Point.
Seaside
Seaside was the final destination of Lewis and Clark’s journey west and today it is the ideal lodging base for visitors to Fort Clatsop National Historical Park. This friendly and walkable town has many shops and restaurants along its “promenade.”
Astoria
A city of 10,000, its architecture is dominated by hundreds of Victorian homes clinging to steep wooded hillsides and a revitalized 1920s era downtown. Also, Fort Stevens State Park is directly to the west of town.
