That's Juan hell of a find
Awaking to Perth weekend time, it was after 10am, hmm. A quick shower and we were away.
We just walked really. Stopped for some brunch and had a look around. Went through Bourke St, Chinatown, and the Greek precinct.
Are all Melbournians perverts? In one block by the Greeks and Chinese I spotted 4 Club X's and a few other peepshow style places. Nice.
We decided to wander across to QV Market and were pleasantly surprised. Not by the market per se, but one of the reasons for this trip is to scope out whether we could live here, and well... market price meat and fish is a relief to Perth price. A lot of saving to be had.
One big tick for Melbourne.
All this walking took us through to about 2pm, so headed back to the apartment. After a short rest, I took off for gallery hop number one.
Figured I'd just take in NGV to pass the afternoon.Good call!
When I rolled up, my face immediately illuminated. Exhibition ending Feb 4 - Juan Davila. One of my favourite artists, ever. I would have been so pissed if I'd missed this, and I didn't even know it was on, so a very pleasant surprise for me. I took the Davila works in and whilst I was in the midst I was accosted by a security guard;
"You can't photograph the artworks"
"I know"
"Then what's that?"
"Err, my phone..."
*accusative look*
"...it doesn't have a camera, look"
*walks off*
One cross for Melbourne... back on level terms.
After Davila, I went through the rest of NGV and aside from a Warhol, I'd say that Art Gallery WA has a better collection (on show). [Plus, I only count contemporary art, so the old European stuff including the Rembrandt's don't count ;)]
Coming back from NGV I spotted a little Malay place and needed a snack. One $4 roti canai later and Melbourne is in possession of a positive score again.
Tonight: dinner with Clint and 'the boys'.
