Island-hopping with hungry fish

Had a blast today. Good company, good snorkelling... plain good fun.

I forget which island was which, hah... but we stopped by Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik, Gaya, and Sulug. I think they were in that order, but I son't really remember. An island's and island right? ;)

First stop, we didn't get off the boat... the coral was blooming, and the sea was pretty red from this. Not something you see too often where I'm from.. so yeah, it was different. The floor was covered in starfish. Just everywhere. Never seen so many starfish in one area.. apparently they all gather here this time of year, so yeah... Interesting.

Next two stops were for a bit of snorkelling for the morning. The strange thing I found here was that the bank drops away so sharply in comparison to Australia.

Like, flat flat *boom* 15 metres. Very interesting in deed. So anyway, got used that and ahad a blast swiming in amongst the coral and countless different fish species. To be honest... I was getting sick of actually finding Nemo ;)

It was great though.. some of the best snorkelling I've done. Close to shore, calm, shark-free, and plenty of different species. Plus it was pretty quiet. Nowhere near as busy as I was expecting.

Something I should mention, more stafish. This time, a brilliant, fluorescent blue. Stunning!

After these stops it was nearing lunch and we headed for a buffet kind of thing where all the tours stop off at. It was packed! We ate, relaxed a little, and went on into the water. The snorkelling wasn't nearly as good as the other stops, so weren't that interested in stopping longer than necessary... Although this is the scene of the funniest thing of the day.

I saw some Asian guys jumping out of the water, screaming and laughing before we headed in... Intrigued we went closer. And now this could only happen to T. I saw some territorial fish (about 8 inches in length) ..They were pretty angry, and I had encountered these things on Phi Phi a few years back. Although they only charged me there. These suckers were more agitated than I remember.

Anyways, T was next to scream and jump... so I dunked my head just in time to see it happen again... The fishy darted out from the coral and bit her arse a second time... Hilarious.

Oh, how I laughed :D

Apparently, it wasn't that funny for her, tee hee

So... after that excitement we headed off elsewhere... another quick swim and snorkel and then some fishing. We didn't catch a thing.. but it was all good. At least we had a go.

Probably using the wrong bait ;)

We scooted off to the mainland and actually made arrangement to head on down to a hawkers near the hotel with the guys from Beach Bums.

That was all good... a few drinks, some mighty fine K.T (kway teow).. and a leisurely stroll back to the hotel along the beach most of the way...

All-in-all... a very memorable day... even if mainly for the fish-biting-arse incident :D
