Cocktails, swimming pools, and downtown KK
Went for a few adventures into downtown KK. Mostly shopping and food-orientated activities to be had, and that's exactly what we did. As is usually the case, I find the dodgiest looking place for food going on the looks and eat them early in the trip. Get my local fill before I feel like something more 'westernised' after a few weeks.
Truthfull, there's not really all that much to report about KK... it's typical Malaysia pretty much. KK itself is pretty small overall, but it has everything that you need, and it's easy to get around. Plus as Mt Kinabalu is looming in the distance it could fill my climbing desires whenever it tickled my fancy.
We've booked our trip to Sandakan, which will take in Sepilok - the major reason for choosing KK as our destination in the first place.
So now that that's taken care of with little incident, we can relax by the pool.Which is exactly what we've been doing.
Lots of lounging around, sipping cocktails and nasty beer. We've met a couple about our age that are good fun, and we'll probably be spending some more time with them over the coming days. Big Kev and Nat.. Both Aussies, but Iranian and Greek heritage respectively. Can't hold that again them I guess.
Down the coast a bit is a little hut called "Beach Bums Borneo" and they do island tours and water sports, etc.. so that might be worth doing something through them later in the week. Get some feedback from others first though.
Noticed the other night that the resort crew includes a Malay that is dressed in a tribal outfit and goes around lighting the flame torches along the beach and walkways. Nice touch.
And of course, there's a cocktail bar strategically placed for the sunset.
Overall, the place is treating is us fine so far and we're chilling like the best of them.
