After Thoughts: Sticky soil it is!
January 2, 2004
Thus concludes my trip to Hualien, Taiwan. It didn't feel like Christmas nor New Years as they're not big holidays in Taiwan. I did fell in love with this place as the people of Hualien often say: "Hualien has really sticky soil". Once you lived there, you never want to leave.
I myself have never been to Hualien prior to this trip. I was born in the smog of central Taiwan, and I totally dislike Taiwanese mainstream culture. Being able to understand the language makes me see too much ugliness and not enough beauty. I usually find travelling to Taiwan more of a chore than a fun experience. I got introduced to this beautiful province thanks to my father who decided to get a new job to work at a Christian hospital in Hualien City.
Hualien has since became my no.1 city of Taiwan. There is just no competition...I would recommend Hualien over Taipei to travellers any day.
