Mykonos
August 31, 2008
By metro, we headed towards Piraeus where we would take Hellenic Seaways to go to Mykonos. It took us about 4 hours from Piraeus to Mykonos with two stops. When we got off the port, our hotel bus wasn't there to pick us up. We couldn't hail a taxi because there were very few and the ones that were by the port already had passengers. We didn't have a phone so we couldn't call the hotel. Then this man in a very small truck offered to take us to our hotel for 15 euros. Yes, he ripped us off, but we weren't thinking correctly because we were hungry and tired and it was so windy. But we finally arrived at our hotel. We stayed at San Antonio Summerland. It's about 5-10 min from the port and 5 min from town. We were starving so as soon as we dropped off our luggage, we went down to the hotel restaurant.
Then it was off to the beach. The hotel has a shuttle to Mykonos town. And from there we walked to the bus station. We decided to check out Paradise Beach. It's 1.40 euros one way. The bus was so packed. We arrived in the late afternoon so we didn't have to pay for sunbeds. It wasn't the best weather for the beach. It was extremely windy. I read about the meltemi, a strong wind, that is particularly strong in the Cyclades during the summer. And yes, it is a very strong wind!
