3 months attempting to see as many of the highlights of South America as possible. Starting in Ecuador and finishing in Machu Picchu.

Hacienda visit near Cayambe and equatorial high-jinks

From Quito we drove to a haçienda near Cayambe. Very pretty but a little dull and very chilly plus rather expensive. We did have the option of horseriding but decided to wait until we were amongst the gauchos of Argentina.

After lunch we hopped on a bus to visit a giant sundial centred on the equator line. It's surprising how much fun you can have jumping between the northern and southern hemispheres.... it's always the simple things that give the most pleasure!

The next day we drove by 4WD up onto Cayambe Volcano. After a bumpy ride we were ~4700m above sea-level and standing on the edge of the glacier - it's the only snow covered volcano on the equator.
