Leaving home/Arriving in Ecuador

So Bridget and I were finally off to explore South America after what felt like a fairly long month back in the UK! Yay us!!!!
First leg of our flight was from London to Miami on American Airlines - seats OK, food crap. The fun really began when we hit Miami airport, with 1.5hrs to get our next flight to Quito it turns out that you have to completely leave the airport and then check yourself and baggage all the way back in. With queues of people at passport control it was all a little stressful! The important thing was both of us and our luggage made it to Quito around 8pm.
After putting our bags down in the hotel we immediately got a call that our tour group were still having the welcome meeting (it started at 7 so no chance of us making it on time) so we could go down and meet them. Judging by the comments the next day we were looking a little out of it which I guess isn't surprising as by then we'd been travelling for about 22hours. The group seemed like a nice bunch and an interesting mix of characters so we were looking forward to starting our 16 day trip of the highlights of Ecuador.
Our first day saw us catching a public bus to Papallacta Hot Springs. The warm thermal pools were great to chill out in after the previous days travels... though we got a bit fidgety after about an hour. Guess we both have short attention spans! Our first group meal included the best soup of the entire trip, all other soups paled before it, poor soups! The accomadation was in little cabins much like swiss chalets which were really lovely although rather creaky as we found out when the girls upstairs got up rather earlier than we wanted to.
