The most expensive apples in the world !!!!!

So the longest day in the world for us just happens to fall on April Fools Day it´s quite apt that it´s today we´ve chosen to join Howard Marks and the great list of other famous smugglers!!!!!!! Yep today we got caught and fined smuggling INTO South America half a dozen sweet smelling APPLES !!!! And what was the price of this outrageous crime ???????????? TWO HUnDRED DOLLARS !!!!!!!!!! and that was after  negotiating a discount from the 500 that they wanted!!!!! Who´s the criminal there??????????????????????????? Are they the most expensive apples in the world at 33.333 dollars each ?????????? Welcome to Chile !!!!!!!!!!

From the airport we jumped into a share van and heded to our hostel. Our first choice was booked solid but luckily we got a room in the hotel next door.

the rickety stairs up to our tree house stylee bedroom!!!!
The best way to describe it is as a  little tree house kind of room where we had to climb a small set of steps to get to  the bedroom because oddly it was built on top of our bathroom. It was tiny but nice and the hotel was amazing with it´s cool central patio, huge doors and creaking floorboards everywhere!! Just outside the hotel was a small park and this is where , after a quick look round we sat and watched Santiago go by. It was great, nice and warm, plenty to see and lots of people to watch....but soon enough it was beer o clock so we headed to a little place opposite the park full of locals and ordered a couple of Cervezas ( very good ), a plate of mini empanyadas ( dry and cardboard like pastry with a cheese filling ) and a couple of completo italiano ( tasty hotdogs filled with mayo, mustaed, tommy K and advocado ).

Back to the hotel and a quick shazza  and we were off out again, what´s the next step in our South American adventure ???? We didnt know so we headed next door to ask the dude in the backpackers, he tried to sell us a well expensive trip down through the lakes so we grabbed some info, another beer and a place by the pool to think it all over. Shall we go, yes, .....no.........yeah why not............no it´s too expensive.......oh sod it come on lets just do it.........ok...........but what about if we just get a bus ourselves somewhere...........oh I don´t know...............no, lets just do the tour..........no the bus........ok then the bus.................or the tour...............( we both knew we used to be indecisive now we´re not so sure !!!!!!! ) .
that's more like it
Finally we decide to do the tour and so head back to book it.................................half way there though it´s all change we´ll just book a bus ourselves to Pucon WOOP WOOP A DECISION IS REACHED PArP PARP PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. We´re so excited at our decisiveness that we head out to the shops , grab a bottle of chilian red, and some larger cornish pasty looking empanyadas ( well they are traditional chilian food they can´t all be bad ) and head back to the hotel for an early night.

Just for the record the wine was great the empanyadas still tasted like cardboard only with a slightly beefy taste.....well mine did, Ria´s tasted like cardboard with a chickeny taste!!!!!! ( Later investigation prooved that all empanyadas tasted like cardboard but some ,especially those at bus stations ,strangely, did actually taste ok.

Oh Mr Darcy !!!!!!
...but then maybe that´s just because we were hungrier at the stations who knows.......and to be quite honest who really cares!!!! Good to see that the apostrophe has made a reappearence though I was getting quite frustrated with the ¨, and the {   !!!!!!! Anyway we like Santiago.

Next day we head out on a walking tour of the city which is great and we manage to see loads of old buildings and I get to sample more traditional chilian food, choripans, this time it´s choritzo sausage in a bun with oodles of a kind of cheesy mayo, tommy K and mustard all over them....fantastic. So good in fact I´m straight in for another one whiuch is equally good. I don´t know why chilians aren´t all the size of a house....they do only seem to eat hot dogs and  empanyadas and drink either coke or beer!!!!!!

Our walking tour finishes at a lovely park called St Lucias which is a real haven of peace ( did I really write that, ´.

..´lovely park´.....´haven of peace ´....how quaint...oh god I´ve done it again...quaint...how very Jane Austin, next thing you know Mr Darcy will be turning up and offering to take me outside and tan my hide PPPAAAHHHHH !!!!!! ) in the center of the city. We sit in the sun for a while and then get chatting to another couple of high class pleasure seekers who are staying next door to us, after an hour or so it´s time to make a move so armed with our newly bought phrase book we´re off again to the supermarket for provisions for tomorrows trip and something for tea.

We had arranged to meet the other couple for a beer before tea so we headed next door for a quick sundowner, can´t have too many big trip tomorrow....

just for you Neil !!!!!
........

so roughly 6 or 7 hours later we staggered back to our room completely wasted ( this is definately your fault Chris and the influence of the Big Shawyer House rubbing off on us !!!!! ) Can´t wait for tomorrow..............................................................

That might be the reason why New Zealand doesn'!t export their best apples:)
