Me, Dylan and Eli appeasing my mom's need to take some pictures before we head off on our cross-country bike trip
It's the day before orientation starts for Bike & Build and I'm so excited! I can't believe it's actually my turn to start this amazing cross-country bike trip. Since I found out about it last spring, I've been waiting and counting days until tomorrow when my adventure begins...although, really, the adventure started today.

My parents drove me and my bike, Roosevelt, to an exit off the NJ Turnpike to meet up with my cousin, Eli (from Jamaica, VT), and a friend from school, Dylan (from Syracuse, NY), who are both going on B&B with me. We had a very late lunch/early dinner and then, of course, my mom insisted on taking some pictures of us before we departed, heading for Norfolk, VA to stay at "Beau's before Bike & Build base camp.
holding your breath in the tunnels on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is not exactly a good idea...
" (Beau is one of the guys on the trip who lives close to our starting point, Virginia Beach, and has welcomed in anyone who needs somewhere to crash the night before orientation.)

The ride down to Virginia was a lot of fun. Some highlights from the trip include going to the Original Beer Cave, seeing Wendy's every 5 miles (and getting fries with frosties at least twice), seeing a confederate flag and a sign that said "Dixieland"...and the Virginia State line being 20m later, playing Sudoku while in line at a NJ gas station for an hour, and going over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge - singing "20 mile bridge, 20 mile bride, 20 mile bridge bridge bridge bridge bridge bridge" and holding our breath in the tunnels on the bridge (they're very long, I don't suggest it...ever).

When we got to Beau's, it was pretty late already, but the four of us hung out for a while. His dad's a military doctor and he has this clock in his living room that was originally from a navy boat...and it goes off every few hours...a lot. Dylan and Eli won't stop talking about it. Haha.
I'm so excited because I've had more fun just on the way down to Virginia than I thought I would. Now for orientation to start tomorrow...
