Trucks waiting to get in to Albania in no-man's land

The Albanian - Montenegro border, can we get back in again?

After a brief visit in the regional capital Shkoder, we had a long bumpy drive towards the border city of Honi Hotit which is the second border station between Albania and Montenegro. Driving there was some ride; passing horse carriages and unsafe shoppers on cycles with too many groceries and fighting to avoid the holes in the road, making the cyclists shoppers do hazardous stunts.

The border control on the Albanian side was quiet calm, a lot of trucks seemed to be stuck, some of them already having grown moss on them of standing there so long.

We had followed a Polish car since almost all the way from Shkoder and just behind us was an extremely impatient French woman in a small Peugeot 206 cc which tried to run by everyone taking the wrong lane at their custom. She was quickly forced back in line which she absolutely didn't like.

We had provided all the papers once again; all the same as the way in, including the paper with the eagle seal. While our passports were thoroughly examined by one guy in a small glass booth, I had to take the eagle seal paper to the customs office. Before I entered the office I was stopped by a guy in a uniform with a big smile that wanted my paper and one euro in tourist tax. I gave him one euro in small coins which he didn't mind.

I returned to the passport guy who had finished the papers of the Polish people in front of us and now looked to ours.

We again got our stamps in the passports and were now ready for the same control done by the Montenegro custom and police.

There was nothing moving on the Montenegro side in any direction, they had apparently a break; well so we were told. When they finally started again, they took one side at the time and 5 cars at the time. Even though things went slow the situation was much calmer at this border station than the one at Sukobin; maybe due to fewer Italians and people who were worried about missing their ferry. Well except of this French woman behind us who was still complaining the whole border session.

We had our trunk searched twice by two different persons; I still think that it was to have something to do and finally we had our passports and all car registration papers taken for further examination in a small barrack next to where we were lined up.

There is even a café in no-man's land. Waiting can be commercialized and maybe it is a big business here!
After further 10 minutes we were greeted by a border police that handed us all papers back with the correct stamps and welcomed us to Montenegro.

We left the border area and quickly caught up with a couple of trucks which had left the border in good time before us. The road from the border station was very narrow and serpentine and when we caught up with the trucks we had to go backwards due to a truck that was coming from the other direction going to the border.

All this back and forth meant that the crazy French woman also caught up with us. Here she started to honk at us like she was driving in Paris and had gotten sun struck! After this she started waving at us to let her by. We let her by because we had no hurry and she started to attack to two trucks in front of us with the same means; I had never seen anything like it. After a couple of kilometres she managed to pass them but it was very suicidal the way she passed them. She had a long way home!!

The way in at the coast was really bad. Thats why we took yhis way out, there was at least 3h queue to get out that way. I was glad that it only took 30-40 min to get out.
