Early Friday morning we hauled our butts out of bed for the opportunity to take part in the grape harvest. There is a local wine maker that takes us students out for a bit of free labor and we get to pick grapes and taste wine. So he took us to a field near Perugia somewhere and we got to a-pickin. At some point along the way the real workers, a bunch of mostly retired older men, joined us and made us realize how slow we were. After we had finished only one row (with the help of the men) we were done already and it was time to eat (and drink). Of course the men had been there since much earlier and had acctually done some work. So panini in a beautiful field with a bunch of funny old men with wine out of plastic water bottles and some kind of coffee digestif to wash it down: not a bad way to have lunch!

We then got taken back to Ricardo's house to see his wine opporation. He has lived there his whole life and has made his home into an agri-tourism bed and breakfast that makes olive oil, wine, honey and jams. He is so very passionate about the products and the work he does it was infectious. He makes orgainc wine, etc. and he says has a great resturant. We have aspirations of heading back down there for dinner sometime since he is just down in the valley from Castiglion Fiorentino.

It was a great day.
