Landing in Delhi International airport really set the tone for the entire trip- everyone buzzing (all 20 of us) with no one having ever experienced something quite so different in all of their lives. Collecting bags etc. was very swift. Whilst waiting to organise taxis etc to the Chanderlok building we waited in a very quiet arrivals hall.... and then there was a power cut... and another....and another, the power kept cutting out every 10 minutes or so- Something you would just never experience in a European airport. No one was put off though. We all jumped in rickety taxis with about 6 rucksacks strapped on top and headed off to the embassy and Chanderlok. Delhi was a complete assault on the senses. Not only the sights but the sounds and particularly the smells were, to say the least- out of this world. Just moving though a tiny part of the city you experienced so much more of it than you would do in an English taxi- you were far from floating about in a dingy little box. These taxis were nestled right into the very essence of Delhi ready to whisk us off to more increible and interesting places.
