I flew from Birmingham to Bratislava with Ryanair on a return ticket costing only £2 (including taxes etc.)!The flight was on time and as I had not checked in any luggage I was able to walk straight out of the airport. The plan was to make my way into Bratislava town so I tried to buy a bus ticket but the newsagents was closed and the automated machines only accepted coins, of which I had none and the shops wouldn’t give me change.Taxies were 500svk but there was no way I was paying that when the bus should have been 18svk.Anyway, I happened to see a sign for a bus to Vienna for €10 and luckily I still had a €10 note left over from when I had been to Crete.I had half thought about making the trip to Vienna anyway so I got on this bus, which took about 1.
5 hours to get to Vienna.
It was getting dark as I arrived in Vienna so my first priority was to get a map and then find a youth hostel.I asked a policeman and he said that there were no youth hostels in the city centre so I looked at the price of a hotel room - €125!There was no way I was paying that!It was about 9:30 at this point and I was beginning to think that I could just stay sit in a bar till it closed then I would probably only have a few hours to wait before it was light again.
So, having given up on finding a hostel I walked around a few of the sights for a couple of hours. As I was returning to the main square I happened to notice an internet café so I jumped in and looked up hostels in Vienna and found one that was about 45 minutes walk from the centre. It was now nearly so I set off in high hopes only to arrive and be told that it was full. For some reason I decided to continue walking a bit further and found a hostel with a bed.
