A journey all around the continent, visiting some of the less travelled routes (if such routes still exist and I think them worth trying). The journey ends outside South America, the finish in western Canada.

Cali

After Popayan and the volcano, I moved onto Cali which is Colombia's third largest city. I have been couchsurfing with two local girls and a couple of fellow couchsurfers, Ian from the US and Juriy from Germany. The girls took us out to the salsa clubs at the weekend and we went to the zoo on Monday, but so far we have mainly been relaxing, watching movies and going out en masse for food and taking forever to decide what we want and where we will eat it.

Today went with my host Natasha to the pool on the roof of her parents apartment block. Had a very nice panoramic view of the city, which is modern and a big contrast to Popayan. However, despite the size it seems safe enough to walk around day or night.

I was far less afraid in Colombia than in Ecuador and Peru. What you hear on the news is often exaggerated and whatsmore the travel grapevine presented a very different picture of Colombia. And I would have gone even if it was perceived to be dangerous.

I hope you're still around and haven't been kidnapped in Colombia!
