The last two days have been spent visiting the main beach and snorkel spots of the island. On Friday we went to Lopez-Mendez beach, a surfing beach that is rated one of the best in Brazil. Can´t argue against the verdict, it is very beautiful and isolated because you walk 20 minutes through the jungle to get there from where the boat left us.
The boat wasn´t in the best of shape, leaving us floating stranded a couple of times until they could get it going again. Luckily it didn´t break down on the way back, because it was getting quite cold.
Today we went to the blue lagoon (lagoa azul) and another nice beach. We had apparently paid to go on a 200 person catamaran with very little shade from the sun. We had a word with the tour operator and got a 40 person boat for the 12 of us, with lunch and snorkels, for the same price.
The blue lagoon had some very good snorkelling, although I was the only one that went a bit further to see the better spots. Lots of coral and colourful fishes nibbling away at things. No big fishes though, probably scared off by all the boats full of tourists.
On the way back we chilled at a nice little beach and had some chips for lunch. On the boat the sea was rather more choppy and one time I got thrown off the beach I was on and slipped down the deck a few metres. Luckily unhurt, but rather wet and surprised.
Had a quiet night to get up early for the boat back to the mainland.
