One week to go, packing up....

Its Saturday the 6th of September, nine days before I head off.  I'm at home packing up my house.  I've tenants moving in for a year while I'm away so packing all my gear away in boxes to ship it over to my parents who are doing me a huge favour by storing it all for me.  It feels really weird to think of somebody else living here and being really honest I hate the thought of it, but if it pays the mortgage while I'm off enjoying myself then it'll should be worth it...  Time to stop being sentimental :-)

So.. I've spent the last couple of months planning and organising and even though I still can't believe its actually happening, I think I'm nearly ready.  All the gear is ready waiting to be packed, I've had all the shots, I'm wrapping things up in work.  But now the nerves and the butterflies are setting in.   I've never done something like this on my own before and now as I start saying goodbyes to family and friends it feels like it'll be ages til I see them again, even though I know the time will absolutely fly.  Sure I'll be back before they realise I'm gone!!

So tomorrow will be spent driving carloads of stuff over to my folks' house (with of course a break for the All-Ireland), then one more week of work to get through and I'm off.  Don't know yet how this blog is going to work out, or how often I'm going to get to update it.  But I'm going to try and keep it going, and hopefully make it some bit interesting and not bore anyone to tears!! First stop Quito, Ecuador.  Due to arrive there on Tues 16th. So hopefully next post will be from somewhere after there.

But for now, back to the packing.....
