Wired for Sound and Wireless(less)

After a hectic day at work on the Bank Holiday I was eventually able to set off for my Innkeepers Lodge where I am staying overnight before catching my flight from Stansted airport tomorrow.

It seemed as if everybody who lives within a ten mile radius of the pub realised I was hoping for a quiet day that would allow me to get a quick getaway.  They weren’t going to allow me that luxury and I was kept busy right up to the last minute before I had to leave, to it to ensure I made it to my overnight ‘digs’ on time.

The drive down was as expected, initially a busy M6 which eventually cleared allowing me a reasonably trouble free drive to the Lodge. I plugged in the Tom Tom for directions and the Ipod for the tunes, only to find the cigarette lighter didn’t seem to be working so they wouldn’t get charged during the journey. Totally aware of how power hungry both devices are I had my doubts whether they would last. They did! Both of them becoming completely discharged just as I arrived at the car park, I just hope that’s not the last piece of good luck I’m going to get this week.

I’d agreed to have my card charged before I arrived so that I could get a quick check-in service, and although it was quiet at reception I was still glad I did. I just couldn’t have been bothered listening to the whole of the spiel they probably provide for arrivals, from breakfast time to departure time bleh! That said I wasn’t totally impressed with the hospitality, especially as it is part of my own pub brand.......... I asked for a latte and the guy lied telling me that the machine was switched off! I couldn’t be bothered to argue the point though, it must be my reserved English nature.

I tried to make use of the wireless connection whilst there purchasing some airtime, but it only accepted credit cards (how short-sighted is that, don’t they realise people have debit cards and prefer not to use credit cards?) and of course I couldn’t connect  to another partner provider without an internet connection ........Catch 22.

Oh well just left me a bit of time to draft this short piece and then climb into what looks like a comfortable bed and have a quick read before calling it a night. Using this laptop to recharge the totally exhausted gadgets due to their earlier extended use.
