Tadapani (2590m) > Deurali (2990m): Frozen tents and dirty snowmen

To say we went up like 500m today, it didn’t feel like it. It was kinda pleasurable for all involved. Maybe the snow had revived us all… That was why we opted to come in Winter after all.

Start of the day was interesting… The tents were frozen and it was like minus 15°C or something, so it was an interesting night. The combination of the cold air and the 3000m altitude made sleeping pretty difficult. You basically get to sleep, and once you get in your rhythm and start drifting deeper, your breathing obviously becomes shallower and you jolt awake. Interesting.

On waking I had to ‘crack’ the tent open for breakfast… and my boots were pretty solid too. Great.

The day on the trail was pretty interesting as well. With the fresh snow, we had a pleasant time traversing the white, uphill forest paths and entertained ourselves with a day long snow fight. Even Sittaram got involved.

And we made some dodgy snowmen… Ang’s was just plain wrong.

Had lunch at Banthanti (2520m) before finishing the day off with some icy trails onward to camp at Deurali (2990m).

That night through dinner, it was basically decided that our original intention of heading up to Khayerlake (4727m) wasn’t feasible due to the recent weather and the ice on the trails.

Shit happens, as they say.
