Ramche camp

That was hard… back in the tent, in the snow. We actually awoke to snowfall… and Sittaram giving us our cards back ;-)

We actually thought that waking to snow was kind of nice… It wasn’t heavy, just nice and light fall. But jeez, it soon added up over breakfast and packing our bags and tents. There was a nice cover by the time we were ready to leave.

Went into the lodge to with Ang to translate for us. We let our feelings be known to the family about how kind they are, and apparently they were glad they had come to know us over a few days. Had a farewell with Marieke as well obviously, and said we’d be in touch… should she ever come to Perth, she’s more than welcome to get in touch.

Actually, this was kind of weird. We had stayed at the lodge for two full days… 3 days and an extra morning if you really want to stretch it, and the whole family came outside to wave us off even after we’d said our goodbyes inside. Honestly, it was pretty special.

If only that warm, fuzzy feeling had stayed the rest of the day. If it did… my hands wouldn’t have been so numb. It was seriously cold today. Mainly because it snowed continuously from waking through to reaching camp.

It was nasty.

We walked for like 8 hours, but with the fresh snowfall, we couldn’t see the trail. We basically just trampled across the fields in the general direction of the trails. In and out of trees, up scarps, along ridges… It was never-ending.

It was disheartening.

It took 25 minutes of holding onto a coffee at lunch to get the feeling back in my fingers because I only had my polyprop gloves on, and not my waterproof gloves. Once they were soaked, I opted for bare skin to mildly more success.

I will honestly say that this was my worst day on trek.

I was enraged on arrival at camp… People had been annoying me for trivial things, which can be attributed to the numbness. In fact, when made it to camp… which incidentally, was scheduled for Ramche, but since we wandered off-track a good few kilometers and we were running out of daylight, we stayed at some relatively flat field near Ramche (circa 2700m); just to the side of Poon Hill (3210m).

Anyway… when we made it to camp, I was pretty pissed off. T tried to calm me down, before a testosterone fueled fury of mayhem took over. I pretty much just wandered off by myself for a little while… Hot chocolate in hand, I constructed a snow turtle.

Calm again.
