Meandering and navigating the Vancouver arteries to the port of Tsawwassen...
Once we hit the greater city of Vancouver, we make our way down through the heart of the city herself. We are slightly pressed for time, but only if there will be traffic. Although our pace is quickened, it does not deter us from enjoying our leisurely cruise...serenaded now by the Righteous Dudes Mix, of Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Air Supply, Bill Whithers, Cat Stevens, and many more. The car goes silent as three soft spoken voices mouth out soundlessly on three quivering sets of lips, when Richard Marx takes us back to our school days, inside a Mazda 6, in Vancouver.
The Lions Gate Bridge greets us with fire as the morning fully opens up to the day, dropping us onto and into Stanley Park. I did not get a chance to go through the park before, its enormous.
To have so much green and earth and ocean, in one place, so close to the metropolis is a blessing. Makes me appreciate Gold Gate Park a little more, although it does not compare in sheer size and magnitude. We take Granville over the waters of English Bay and by the Public Market island, our second bridge hop through the city. Although there is traffic, it does not slow us down too badly, as we scout out fantasy homes in Shaughnessy. Eventually Granville takes us across our third bridge, the Oak Steet Bridge, and dumps us out onto the 99 and off we go, roaring across the open highway. I love the clouds on sea side drives. They line and skirt the horizon in every direction, like silver and lace trimming. We pop into the George Massey Tunnel and the 17 takes us all the way to the Tsawwassen Causeway. Thank god we have reservations, we scoot down to the front of the line, 15 minutes before departure. Another close call for BiG, but gracefully executed. We take a small pit stop at the ferry terminal for a much needed stretching of our legs. Moments of indulgence ensues when gelato is discovered. The usual "you get what you want and i'll just have some of yours" happens and im spoon feeding now. The apprentice has become the master hahahah. It has been nearly 15 years for me, since i have taken this ferry with a car, across the Strait of Georgia to Victoria. We will actually pass through the Canadian/USA border a few times as the ferry makes its way to Vancouver Island, zig zagging across the waters, invisible and arbitrary borders on a bed of silvered surf.
