Wedding reception in the castle
It was a cold, dark night, but there was electricity in the air as Lucia arrived dressed in a cream gown with matching cream princess coat on a horse-drawn carriage with her father. After the long church service (we understood approximately 2%), we threw rice on the happy couple, and were transported up to the reception, which was held in a beautiful castle. Struggling up the stony steps in heels, we were welcomed by the castle jester, and fire eaters, before being called into the castle for a 10 course meal (or thereabouts). The food was local fare, and was divine, matched with lovely Italian wines. Dessert was served upstairs, including the most amazing poppy seed strudel we have ever tasted. Mmmmmmmmm... No wedding cake, but a wedding dance, as per NZ weddings. It was a fabulous occasion, and we got to know some of our NZ relatives a bit better, as well as Jimmy's Brazilian girlfriend who speaks only Portuguese and is learning Italian, so sign language was the order of the day. Altogether a fantastic occasion, and one we are unlikely to ever see again!
