Chihuly Exhibit at De Young - amazing!

For some odd reason, I’ve been to SF 10,000 times but never once have I made it to Golden Gate Park.  Craziness!  So this morning we decided to check out the De Young Museum which was having a Chihuly (sp?) exhibit filled with gorgeously colored hand-blown glass sculptures – truly amazing!  The other art was not particularly exciting … the gardens however seemed wonderful, but we didn’t really have much time to enjoy them since we were headed over to Berkley for the afternoon to “retrace the steps of Felicia’s childhood.”  After a quick stroll through the south side of campus, we made a lunch stop at Top Dog – which I believe is the best hot dog place in CA.  We then walked up and down Telegraph to reminisce but were also surprised at how much it has changed.

They are even more amazing in person!
(I also lucked out and found Uggs on sale, so yes, I bought yet another pair of shoes on this trip.  Sigh – I really need to stop.)  One thing that hasn’t changed is the lunch crowd at Café Intermezzo – still impressively long for yummy salads and bread.  Our next stop was Café Strata – personally I think it’s not as good as before, but I always stop here for the requisite chocolate croissant and coffee (or Bianca mocha).  It really is more for nostalgia than anything else.  At this point I was fully and happy.

We didn’t really make plans for dinner but F was craving pasta so we thought we’d head over to North Beach.
The concierge recommended North Beach Restaurant and even though we thought this particular concierge was quite patronizing and irritating, we decided to use the recommendation.  The restaurant turned out to be quite charming and very Italian.  They were also very smart – they offered a free taste of an amazing wine – of course, almost every table ordered it because it was absolutely delicious.  (Petroni vineyard – Brunello di Sonoma Poggial Pietra).  It was wonderful with my Caprese Salad and Steak Caruso (steak with porcini mushroom and prosciutto sauce). F had a wonderful linguine with scallops and mushroom.  The homemade tiramisu was perfectly rich and homey.  Since the night was so beautiful and the weather so great, we walked back to our hotel.
