Day 6 - Elephant Sanctuary
September 22, 2008
Awoke this morning to yet another beautiful day in Gold Valley. I can understand why Matt & Sylvia live here as who would ever grow tired of the view every morning and evening.
Decided to go to the Elephant Sanctuary today. They actually do a program of education before you meet the elephants. Did you know that an elephant actually walks on its toes? The more you know! LOL
The Elephant Sanctuary in Hazyview (www.elephantsanctuary.co.za) has two males, Casper and Kitzu. Casper is a 22 yo weighing in at around 2 tons nad Kitzu is a 9 yo at about 1.5 tons. They are amazing creatures. They are incredibly smart and walk so quietly you almost don't hear them. We got a chance to meet them up close and personal, feed them and then take them for a ride. Quite an interesting journey.
