Day 15 - Table Mountain & Wine Route
October 1, 2008
Woke up to another great day this morning. Decided better to get up to Table Mountain before the weather turns. And you would have thought I would be done with heights! The drive up to the Cableway was awesome. I highly recommend driving Kloof Rd. Fantastic hairpin turns...
I get up to the counter and buy my ticket. As I'm waiting for the car, I notice that at one point the curve of the cables takes you fairly close to vertical. Again with the heights this trip. The top of Table Mountain is roughly 1085 meters. Add to that... as you ascend, the bottom floor of the cable car rotates. Nice to give you a 360 degree view... bad if you have issues with heights AND motion combined. LOL
The view from the top is quite spectacular. .. when you can see! Being as high as it is, there is a fairly constant flow of cloud cover. Very interesting though as you are basically walking around in a cloud.
From Table Mountain I drove over to Stellenbosch via the Wine Route. My first stop was a great winery, Bergkelder. Great people and some pretty good wine. Drove over to J.C. La Roux for lunch. I highly recommend the Gorgonzola & Watercress Risotto. It was fantastic. Then I was on to Villiera. By this time it was just about time to stop... ahem... "tasting" wine as I still had to drive back into Cape Town.
Had dinner at the Manhattan Cafe in Sea Point. Very nice food and friendly people. Tomorrow is a very long travel day back to Paris.
