Arrival
September 8, 2004
Just before landing, while looking out of the aircraft window I could see nothing but trees, interrupted occasionally by the odd creek. Why are we landing in the middle of the forest, I thought. We seemed to be dangerously close to the tree tops and just as my mind began to condiser the worst, the trees ended and the runway started.
I was to spend the next 4 months in New Brunswick where the fresh air, the megestic view of the St. John River and the stimulating univeristy environment led to, oddly enought, my eye-site improving. My optometrist back in downtown Melbourne, where I live, thought it was the uniterrupted views of the country-side that let my eyes relax. Perhaps if I had stayed their long enough I would have been able to loose my glasses.
