Of Mothers and Daughters . . . and Pride
In my daughter's eyes I'm a heroine, what more could I possibly desire? Well and travel of course, LOL! She could well be called the youngest travbuddy since I have travelled to quite a few countries with her. She began her travels with me as early as 6 months from birth and has since visited at least 20 countries. I have travelled long and wide, sometimes on flights I see mothers with crying, naughty, sick, disrespectful children and feel for these parents. I have been blessed with a respectful, well mannered child and I love travelling with her because she makes it easy to go the distance and makes for a great a companion. For Half of 2008 and another half of 2009 she will be living with my mother in Africa, something I had to seriously pray about and more so for patience not to jump on the next available flight to go and pick her up.
My sisters write and tell of how much she is like me, reminders of me and the 'naughty laughter' they say. "I am not a perfect mother and I will never be. You are not a perfect daughter and you will never be. But put us together and we will be the best mother and daughter we would ever be" -Zoraida Pesante-
If you are a parent to a daughter, you will agree that to our daughters there is something so dear that no words can express. Daughters are a gift of love and I can testify to that, if ever there was something good I did in this life it must be having my daughter.
A mother's treasure, it is said is her daughter. I found this anonymous quote online and thought it very appropriate for me and my daughter. "A daughter is a mother's gender partner, her closest ally in the family confederacy, an extension of her self". ~Author Unknown
My mother the wisdom pot of my life always reminds me that the best gift any mother can give her daughter is building a strong sense of self, self worth, self esteem and RESPECT. I'm so glad my daughter gets to spend such dear time with her grandmother and learn from the best teacher in the world.
Have you ever felt pride that made you feel like you were going to blow up? Yes, that is called love, a special kind of love, a love worth knowing. It is said it is better to have loved than to be loved - well what is wrong with both? You can have your cake and eat it too. DESIRE, that is the name I gave her because she was and is my heart's one desire besides the fact that she is desirable too (Can you hear the mother's pride coming out in this writing?). Everyone should have a daughter . . .and those without, love a woman. The joys of motherhood are endless! Time is love, time is dream . . . time is a sea, and nothing tells it like the love of a mother and child.
