Peculiarities of Australia
Well I am 3 weeks into my "new life" in Australia, and there are some notable differences that come to light with becoming a fully paid-up member of Australian society.
1. Banking - While at home I have different cards for my Debit account, my Savings account, and then my Credit cards, here one card is all accounts, but when you pay with Eftpos (POS) you choose 'Savings' for your everyday Debit account (errrrrrrr...), and 'Other' for your Savings account (are you seeing the problem?), and obviously (!) Credit for Credit. But in fact, you can't pay Eftpos with your Savings account, but you can withdraw money from it at the ATM by inserting your card, and then entering your Savings Account number (so you have to carry all the details around with you all of the time). I got very confused at first.
2. ISAs - they don't have them!
3. Public holidays - are different in every state! So here in Western Australia, we celebrate a whole different set of public holidays to, say, New South Wales.
There'll be more, just wait and see....
