So upon waking we were missing Sal and Danny already but at least Danny was still in town! So we showered, packed quickly and left the awful hotel and sought greener pastures with our wonderful friend. This morning was noticeably cooler than the last few so we sat outside for our French food brunch. Sadly, Phillipe's was a huge disappointment. Tracy suspected her pizza was frozen and don't ask me how I know but the bechamel sauce on my Croque Madame tasted a lot like um.
We sat around and tried to figure out what we wanted to do. Danny suggested going to a nice resort that was decked out with all the bells and whistles that we could walk around and ride gondolas at, but as time passed the humidity shot up and it was a sweltering furnace again. You know what, with a long drive home planned later in the evening, we decided to watch a movie. TROPIC THUNDER IT IS! =) We could all use a laugh, and the Parker theatre was across the street from some sort of cool water feature, Danny said. Ok Danny - you've shown us the most beautiful things in Palm Springs, I trust you!
So off we went and sure enough - the water features in the mini public water park were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I haven't seen something so colorful, creative and artistic since my last trip to Seattle.
Tropic Thunder was pretty funny - classic Ben Stiller with the usual parade of cameos and a surprise role by Tom Cruise - didn't even hear that he was in this movie!! All the actors were great with Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.
On the way out of the theatre my phone starts ringing and it's my friend back in LA giving me a call. Our philanthropist friend needs us to put together a package for investors and the school board. A pretty tough reminder that it's back to work for all of us, and I'm glad to have a new project that isn't related to the mental/intellectual black hole that work has recently become for me. We drop Danny off at his place, thank each other for an amazing weekend and Tracy wants to go to Palm Springs Koffi before we head back.
After ordering some lattes, blended drinks and a nice blueberry muffin, Tracy notices there's an outdoor seating area that looks nice! Considering the heat and humidity the last few days, we've been spending a LOT of time outdoors! But somewhere inside of us we totally prefer it so off we go and there's a magnificent wheelbarrow smack in the middle of the grassy area! Picture time! Snap the last few before we REALLY have to head home! A black and white chihuahua comes by to visit us named "Frodo". He was abandoned and so this lovely couple (first straight couple Tracy and I have seen since we've been in Palm Sprigs) adopted him. What a nice and well behaved dog! =)
When we get back in the car I realize - Danny forgot to take his track pants and sneakers back from the Joshua Tree excursion! So we make another pitstop since it's not far and I knock and knock at his door.
Tracy proved for the umpteenth time to be an amazing travel companion on the way home. I have an idea but can't quite put my finger on why I SO SO SO enjoy roadtrips with Tracy. Yes, she has an amazing attitude. Yes, she is low maintenane and VERY thoughtful. Yes, she is positive and happy. And yes, she loves my car which means she has good taste! ;) I guess that particular combination makes being stuck in a car for hours upon end just FANTASTIC and the ride home was just as enjoyable as our very very FULL weekend.
I think Tracy and I will be back again soon - we just enjoyed Palm Springs SO much, and Danny refused to show us how to get to the Salton Sea because he said it was terrible!! But I brought some Nag Champa to content with the rotting odor! Plus I can have a ciggie and not smell a damn thing! =) Next time I will kidnap everyone and do a post-apocalyptic model shoot at the Salton Sea, visit a nice steakhouse, and party it up with the military boys at 99 Palms with Danny ;) It'll be awesome!
