Awwww, the original plan was to go dancing tonight but our planner in charge seemed to disappear (TIFFY!!!) LOL. Since I had been sick the past few days, perhaps we could opt for something a little more low key like dinner and drinks somewhere. Silvina (silverv) and Jose were down to join! I get a TB message from Alice (Alicegourmet) that her and Tracy (Tre69) may meet up for a drink. I ask her about coming to Long Beach and since Silvina had been wanting to try sushi...we were off and running! Tracy ended up staying home but Alice said she'd meet us for a drink after sushi.
Silvina was stuck working late so Jose and I went ahead to go get a table since I know how packed they are on a Friday night.
We finally got seated at Aki's side of the bar and next to some other people I knew (I pretty much knew or had met 80% of the restaurant patrons that night). This was my once, sometimes twice a week hang out for my entire time in Long Beach. It's like time stood still walking in.
Jose decided to not be as brave as last weekend and stuck with his California Roll and some type of Crunch Roll. Silvina is more adventurous and tried some raw stuff, including a sushi and sashimi platter. I ordered some of my usual standbys....Aki makes me this incredible Tako (octopus) and Ahi (Tuna) sashimi salad...OMG. Heaven! Fresh Bonito was to die for and the oysters were killer.
Al had special ordered a whole lobster for his own Bday and was kind enough to share some with me!!! OMG was that lobster good! Silvina kept wanting to get a picture of him feeding me the lobster with chopsticks but he was always too fast. He came behind me once and I didn't realize he was there and I shrieked, ending up with lobster down my boobs!! Oooops! That lobster was incredible though....WOW! Aki did a fantastic job with it.
The restaurant closed and we were still eating for quite some time after. Once everyone pretty much left except us old time regulars and Silvina, Alice, and Jose of course.
Finally....the cinnabons start coming out and can you believe it....our resident gourmet Alice can't eat them as they are toooo sweet!!!! HA HA HA. We scarfed the cinnabons and then the BEST was yet to come. I saw Aki's wife with the bag...was it?! OMG! It is...KINGS HAWAIIAN BAKERY!! One of my favorite places in Torrance.
Hard to believe but it was already after midnight and we were all tired so we decided to call it a night and head home. We all said our goodbyes and Jose and I headed back to my parent's so he could pick up his car. By the time we got there, I was literally in agony from too many desserts! Since I have been trying to watch carbs....I have not eaten that much sugar in a long time and I felt like death! It was off to roll around and moan for awhile before bed and Jose went home to visit with his Mom.
Fun night and glad I got to introduce my friends to my old hangout in Long Beach and amazing to see the old crew...still there every Friday night - just like before I moved to Vegas in 2004. Miss those guys!!!
