Rovinj and another wedding

We spent the rest of the afternoon in Rovinj, a small fishing town with heavy Venetian influences and a wild palette of colors.   St. Euphemia has a church on a steep hill in the middle of town and all the narrow streets wind down the hill to the harbor like ribbons winding around a maypole.  St. Euphemia’s sarcophagus is in the church but the center of interest the day we were there was wedding preparations.  The bride and her attendants were waiting outside the church and it was almost too picturesque to be real.  The climb up the steep hill was worth it even though I wasn’t sure I could walk back down the uneven marble steps that passed for a street.

In Rovinj we ran into the “dragon ladies” again.  They are the women who stand outside any WC and demand money before you can use the facilities.  This can be a real problem if you don’t have small change with you and we usually didn’t.  We were using credit cards for most of our purchases.  We tried to carry some change with us, but when we were out for an entire day, we often ran out of change before we made it back to the room. The only solution was to stop and have a beer so we could use the café’s WC (usually dragon lady free).  However, having a beer in one café’ only meant that soon we’d have to go look for another WC.
