This amazing trip started in amazing Siena, Tuscany. We drove all day from The Netherlands to this place and i was happy when we finally got here. Because the historicle center of the city isn't allowed for cars we didn't have an impression of the city yet. We found our hotel, parked the car, left our luggage and started to discover Siena by foot. We walked through the narrow little streets and it got more crowded after a while. I looked to the left and saw the famous Palio over there. It's really weird because you don't expact a square like this next to those narrow streets. It was so beautiful, we were standing in front of the Palazzo Vecchio and it was like in a movie. We walked to the square and saw that that it was full of sand.

Piazza del Campo, one day after the famous Palio
We asked what it was for and people told us that the famous horse race on the Palio just took place the day before. We just missed that. We looked for a table of one of the many bars on the square and we enjoyed our first evening in Italy with a nice prosecco like the Italians. The square really is a place of every day life for them, you see lots of children playing over there and lots of people are showing themselves in fancy clothes. The next day we visited the Duomo and some other important churches in the city. We had a good time but we decided to discover the surroundings of Siena the next day because we thought we had seen the most important attractions. We wanted to see San Gimignano so we went looking for this village. Before we got there, we saw another little villages, names Monteriggioni.
This village only has 2 streets with houses around it. The village is surrounded by a citywall and from the citywall you have an amazing view over the landscape. You could even see San Gimignano from here. So we knew in which direction we had to go now. When you come a little closer you understand why San Gimignano is called the Manhattan of Tuscany. You can see the medival towers from far and it's getting more and more beautiful when you get closer. The village is very crowded with tourists unfortunately but hey, i'm a tourist as well, so don't complain! We walked through the center and had a nice icecream in the best gelateria of Italy. I had Vernacchia icecream. Vernacchia is a local wine here so it's fun that they also make icecream of it. After San Gimignano we also went to Monterrigione. This place is less crowded but also very beautiful. The place is known for its Vino Nobile wine. In the centre of the city there are lots of wineshops where you can taste and see different kinds of this wine. So for me, this was heaven! We bought some wine here and for us that was a good way to leave Tuscany again.
