The boat ride out to Racha Yai
I spent a wonderful day diving off the island of Racha Yai. I booked the trip through the hotel and the dive company (West Coast Divers) came and picked me up at the hotel. They had a really nicely outfitted dive boat, with a large sundeck, and nice diving pad. I met a nice girl from Iceland, Unnur, who was diving for the first time. We had a nice chat on the hour long boat ride out to the island. I was a bit rusty on my skills, since the last time I had dived was in the Red Sea last year. But my dive master, Andy was a peach and went over everything and helped me check my gear. It still totally trips me out every time I submerge and start breathing underwater for the first time. On the first dive my buoyancy was all over the place, and I'm sure Andy was wondering about my legitimacy of my license, but the second dive was much better, and I avoided crashing into any coral and pissing off the triggerfish. The water was so warm and visibility was spectacular. From the boat the water is a bright turquoise blue, it almost looks as if it were dyed. This truly is a diving paradise! I wish I had more time; otherwise I probably would have spent a few more days diving and exploring the many other reefs and islands. Oh well, just one more excuse to come back! I would really recommend visitors with more time and a joy of diving to check out the live aboard’s that sail up the Adaman coast toward Burma, stopping at several dives sites a day.
