Going to Dubai to see some close friends who are now working there. They suggested we also visit another country in the region so we now have two weeks in Syria as well. This will be my first trip outside of Asia and Oceania - very excited and eagerly anticipating the adventure that is drawing closer.

38 sleeps to go

Just under 6 weeks to go - it's going to go quickly. Have been tossing up whether to go on this trip for quite a few months. Found a cheap fare and decided I need to go see my friends. In the last week, we've booked tickets, organised a kennel for the puppy, worked out our rough itinerary and read through pages and pages of comments on the internet.

Rough itinerary is - Brisbane to Bangkok (via Sydney), 3 nights in Bangkok, then Bangkok to Dubai (via Bahrain) for a week, then Dubai to Damascus for 12 days, then back to Bangkok for another 3 nights, then back home to Brisbane.

Trying to find accommodation for Syria - travelling partner doesn't like leacing things until we get there and all the hotels I can find on the net cost big dollars! We'd be ahppy with under US100 per night - but a reasonable degree of comfort (he's got a bad back) - anyone got any ideas??
