View outside of Seward

We actually woke up to blue skies in Seward this morning.  Too bad we were leaving to start our drive to Valdez.

Unfortunately the blue skies did not last long.  We were just north of Seward when the gray skies appeared and grew heavier the farther north we went.  By the time we reached Anchorage it was starting to rain.

I did snap a few photos along the way.  The gray skies do not enhance them much, but they give a feel for the area.

We returned along Turnagain Arm with its glaciers.  We looked once again for beluga whales but none were to be seen.

As we turned east we stopped to take in the view of the Matanuska River.  I’m sure the view is wonderful with sun and blue sky, but the picture gives an idea of the size of the braided river.  Farther east the river was running strongly.  We stopped in briefly at Long Lake.

We were going to stop at the Matanuska Glacier, but by the time we got there it was raining steadily, so we will try to go back to see the glacier tomorrow before going on to Valdez.
