Today proved to be much better with the rain limited to an occasional cloud going over with blue sky overhead much of the day.  The clouds did hang on the mountain tops, however.  We started the day by checking out he eagle’s nest in Tlingit Park in the city and found one of the eagles probably mom sitting nicely above the nest.  We were told she had eaglets, but we have yet to see them.

We then stopped at the fairgrounds to see the farmer’s market and crafters show they were holding.  There were not many venders there and most of them were selling plants, but the most interesting thing about the fairgrounds was the little town there.  We found out that this was the set of the movie White Fang which had been moved to the fairgrounds after the movie was filmed here.

From here we drove back to the inlet where the Chilkoot River meets the Lynn Canal to watch the eagle’s nest we found there.  We actually saw a few eagles here as several intruders came into the area and dad eagle sent them on their way.  Both mom and dad eagle did some flying around but had not success trying to fish.  Dad even ended up in the water.

Near where we were watching the eagles was “Deer Rock”.  The Tlinget’s believed that the deer was the most peaceful animal in the forest and a mediator would go to “Deer Rock” to determine a peaceful settlement to war.

As we returned to the trailer for lunch, we again saw Gimpy happily eating grass along the side of the road.

After eating lunch and relaxing a bit, we returned to the nest on the river.  Dad did some flying around and mom went fishing.  Unfortunately she ended up stuck in the water and we were afraid she was going to drown since she was in the water so long.  Finally after working her way out from a rock she got her wings out of the water and made it to land.  We were ready to try and rescue her.  We are making our assumptions about mom and dad eagle by size.

We made on last stop by the Tlingit Park nest before making our way back to the trailer for dinner.

Tomorrow we start inland.
