Bozman Trail

Today proved to be another long day on the road.

Herd of Pronghorn sheep
We got an early start since we did not unhook last night as we did not leave the campground once we finally got in.  Our first stop was the Little Big Horn National Park.  We have been there before, but since we drove right past we stopped briefly for a few photos.

Then was the long drive across I-90.  We soon left Montana for Wyoming.  The rolling landscape seemed to be the homes for cattle and horses.  We also passed herds of pronghorn sheep along the roadside.

Just before we entered South Dakota, we passed the Vore Buffalo Jump.  This is a natural sink hole that was discovered when the interstate was construction.  It was determined that the Indian tribes as early as the 1500’s used this to “harvest” buffalo.  They would herd the buffalo and drive them to the edge of the sink hole where they would tumble in to be slaughtered.

Finally near dinner time we arrived at Wall the home of the famous Wall Drug.  This drug store advertised “free water”.  We stopped here in 1972 when we traveled to Yellowstone.  It was just a drug store with a water cooler.  Now it is a huge tourist trap.  Wall Drug covers a full “city block” and across the street are more gift store.  What used to be the main highway is now parking for the shops.  We, of course, took a look through the stores and then settled into the campground for the night.

Tomorrow we will try and get to Iowa.
