All dolled up in the traditional Vietnamese gown I showed up at the ceremony for this year's first day of High School. All the children were lined up outside waiting to applaud us as we arrived. We were ushered to seats with the rest of faculty and staff. We were given an honorable mention in the "mayor's" speech and we were given flowers as a token of gratitude from the students. After the previous nights meal and this morning's ceremony I'm starting to feel very welcomed and very needed in this community.
But it won't be easy here and it's already starting to try my patience. We've hit a snag with getting Thu to kindergarten. I heard rumors that she was to be adopted and sent to Sweden. Problem was all the kids were going to "Sweden" depending on who you talk to and at what time of day. Since this has been the story for two months now it seemed like enough was enough lets get her to school and the manager ok'd it. Until this morning after the ceremony while at breakfast Viet got a call from him saying he changed his mind. She's getting adopted soon to go to Stockholm so she won't need kindergarten. Bahhh. Looks like this is gonna be a battle.
