"I left my heart in San Francisco, high on a hill it calls to me To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars. The morning fog may chill the air, I don't care..."

I'll take you with me...

Introduction:

I'm a bit of a romantic.

I had planned to go on a ten day family/surfing trip to San Francisco before I met the man who I believe could very well be the love of my life. A passionate traveler himself, he wished me happy travels with much enthusiasm and I left with a promise to tell him everything upon my return, knowing my Internet access while away would be very limited. Who wants a bunch of "I'm having fun. Wish you were here!" e-mails, anyway? It was tough for me to accept the fact I would be off on some adventure while he was stuck in his stressful work routine. We've spoken about travel and adventure, our hopes and dreams to see and experience the world from day one and the first opportunity to travel that comes along, he wouldn't be able to make it. It didn't seem fair but he was a good sport about it. He was so excited for me.

The day before my departure, I was browsing the local book shop in search of airplane reading when I was suddenly drawn toward the stationary section of the store. 'Lo and behold, I stared in awe at the row of pretty travel journals and suddenly had this brilliant idea. I would actually WRITE a travel journal during my time away and chronicle my experiences and adventures as I live them. I didn't need TravBuddy nor e-mail. Now this was such a brilliant concept for me, the girl who tends to write everything after my return and thus, tends to skimp on the details as the memories begin to fade. Being a web designer who lives and breathes the World Wide Web, actual handwriting has become a bit of a lost art for me, but as I stared at the beautiful array of purse-sized journals, I decided that writing would be my gift to him, not some cheap souvenir from those touristy stores. No, I would carry my book around with me and through that book, I would take him to San Francisco.

These entries are excerpts from this journal. I wasn't going to post any online journal of my trip and I was only going to entrust these wonderful memories to Bill, but then I decided I could post a few snippets along with some of my photos on TravBuddy. I thought some of you intrepid travelers might appreciate some of the fun, magical moments I experienced.

Happy reading.

aww!! =) Can't wait to read! I do the same when I visit undeveloped countries - no computer, no internet. And the documenting process becomes that much more vivid..
