We made the quick drive to Monterey and eventually found Veteran's Memorial Park, where we would camp that night. It was cloudy and misty and gave the campground a creepy look, but it was good enough! We brought out the bikes and biked to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! It's a nice bike downhill from the park towards the water, then along the waterfront to the Aquarium (heading back to the campground is a different story!).
We had a good lunch there, but Janelle ended up having an allergic reaction to some sort of cross-contamination in the food, resulting in me running to Long's to pick up some Benedryl while she lay down on a bench outside the Aquarium trying not to throw up.
Impressed she hadn't passed out with drowsiness halfway back, we promptly napped after the long day.
The next day we would stay in Monterey and then head back to San Jose in the evening. It was cloudy, misty and damp, a great day to bike the 17 mile drive! It's a gorgeous bike ride along the water, and you're led along the road through expensive castle-like houses, playhouses, and tall and looming trees. We stopped at the Lone Cypress for lunch and sat on the viewing dock and subtly opened a can of chickpeas and a can of corn and ate them, hoping no one would notice the two sweaty hobos with bike helmets eating canned foods beside them.
We stopped in Carmel on our way back, walked around and read in the park for a bit before heading back to San Jose and back indoors at Janelle's sister's place.
