Lower... left... nope... more left... oh - just to your right...

Monterey Bay Aquarium. This picture turned out to be much scarier than I thought it would be.
We spent the previous day in San Jose with Janelle's sister, winding down and exploring the city a little, we would return back after our trip to Monterey.

We made the quick drive to Monterey and eventually found Veteran's Memorial Park, where we would camp that night. It was cloudy and misty and gave the campground a creepy look, but it was good enough! We brought out the bikes and biked to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! It's a nice bike downhill from the park towards the water, then along the waterfront to the Aquarium (heading back to the campground is a different story!).

We had a good lunch there, but Janelle ended up having an allergic reaction to some sort of cross-contamination in the food, resulting in me running to Long's to pick up some Benedryl while she lay down on a bench outside the Aquarium trying not to throw up.

I ran into the drug store and asked where the pharmacist where the benedryl was, she continued to direct me from behind her little counter, as I scanned the aisle of medication for the right one. "Lower... left... nope... more left... oh - just to your right". I don't think she understood that I was in a hurry and at this point had no idea how Janelle was doing. I was almost thinking that I would return to where she was sitting outside the Aquarium, she would be gone, and some kid would tell me they had to call an ambulance. Eventually, I found the benedryl and ran back to give it to Janelle. She sleepily made her way through the rest of the Aquarium with me, swearing she was fine, then we slowly walked and rode our bikes back to the campground.

Impressed she hadn't passed out with drowsiness halfway back, we promptly napped after the long day.

Somehow, I also fell asleep around 5:15pm, and only woke again at 10:30pm to eat some food before quickly falling back to sleep.

The next day we would stay in Monterey and then head back to San Jose in the evening. It was cloudy, misty and damp, a great day to bike the 17 mile drive! It's a gorgeous bike ride along the water, and you're led along the road through expensive castle-like houses, playhouses, and tall and looming trees. We stopped at the Lone Cypress for lunch and sat on the viewing dock and subtly opened a can of chickpeas and a can of corn and ate them, hoping no one would notice the two sweaty hobos with bike helmets eating canned foods beside them.

We stopped in Carmel on our way back, walked around and read in the park for a bit before heading back to San Jose and back indoors at Janelle's sister's place.
