Fishing village
After a nice breakfast at the Apollo First hotel in Amsterdam, we drove through the city and saw many of the well-known sites. We went by buse to a historic village with five windmills and bought some mustard.

We began our ride in Doorganweg (small fishing village) and rode along the narrow path on our first dike. The wind was gusting, so getting our balance was a bit tricky. We rode 30 km through Volden dam and another village where we had fresh herring and pickles, and on to Edam for lunch where some had their first apple pancake. Lars entertained us by writing his name in the syrup on the pancake.

After lunch we rode 52 km from Edam to Bergen. Highlights included getting around a tour bus on the bike path. The weather was partly sunny, but with heavy wind and occasional rain. The countryside farms were beautiful, but it seemed like everyone cleaned out the barn today. We saw beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.

We had dinner in Bergen at Pilar on the square. Lars treated us to our first Bittergarnituur (snack tray with Dutch appetizers). Went to the jazz festival and listened to Amina Figurova (jazz pianist) and her band.

Ride:  Durgendam - Broek op Waterland - Volendam - Edam - Schermer - Alkmaar - Bergen
