West End Roatan...

Our trip through Guatemala included Panajachel, Antigua, and Guatemala City. In Honduras we spent a few days around Copan Ruinas, La Ceiba, Roatan and San Pedro Sula. The coolest things were the volcano climbing and the shark feeding dive, it was AWSOME!

West End Roatan...

This was my favorite place out of the cities we visited during this trip. It was so laid back, relaxing.
The snorkeling was amazing! there was coral just 20 feet off the shore. Nice coral, with a lot of fish around! I saw like two puffer fish there and my husband even spotted a 6' moray eel. It just amazing! Though you have to watch out for jelly fish, tons of it, some not so dangerous but I had a few stings.
My husband and I did a refrehsment course for the scuba, last time we did scuba was about 2 years ago and we felt better practicing a bit. The price was about $20 per person, the dive master was excellent.  For our main dives, we went with Native Sons, it was cheaper and they had a good reputation of having fast boats. We ended up paying $25 per dive if we did a 5 dives with them.
Other places wanted 10 dives for $30 a piece.
The boat rides were so short, it was nice. The coral was prestine, and the sea life we saw, man! I got to see 2 huge turtles, one of them sleeping, so it would blow bubbles all the way to the surface, it was funny. Also, an eagle ray, stone fish, and the list could keep going on and on. This place is excellent for diving and snorkeling. I really fall in love with this island. I couldn't finish my 5 dives because my nose wasn't clearing out properly, so I only did 4 total.
I did save the last one for the sharks. We arrange everything through Native Sons, they got us the taxi and equipment we paid about $75 pp.  The shark dive itself was amazing, I was worried about my nose busting again, but I couldn't pass up this experience.
That was also our last day in Roatan, so I had to do it.  There was about 11 of us I think, we set up our own equipment and after went for a brief presentation of what we will be doing and safety stuff.  The boat ride was bumpy, it actually made me a bit sick, but everything went away once I hit the water.
We were descending holding onto a rope because the current was strong, we were warned about so no problem. However, as I started to descend my weight belt straps off, I caught it just in time and two other divers help me put it back on, that was lucky. As I was descending, I started getting a better view of the sharks, they were already gathering around. I was probably the last one to get down, because I was making sure to adjust my nose and ears at every step, so I ended up in front.
I had probably the best view, the sharks were not shy at all, they will swim by me and seemed like they were staring and then off then went. We were told not to move our hands as to keep balance, because sharks take that as if you want to feed them and they might bite.  The whole think lasted about 35 minutes, most of them was teasing the sharks. The dive master would have a bucket, sharks know they'll be fed, so they try to open it and surrounds for all this time.  Right at the end, the dive master opens the bucket and there is craziness for about 30 seconds and then sharks go away. Though, two of them remained after.  There were cool fish there, too. I was just so blown away to appreciate it.  The whole thing videotaped and at the end we a copy of the DVD for $50, it's really cool!

We stayed here for a week, half at Seabreeze and half at Posada Arco Iris.
Both were clean, A/C, hot water, etc. We actually left seabreeze a day earlier because, there were bugs in our room. At first I thought it was my imagination, maybe I was bitten outside, but then my husband woke up with all this bites....It was from the room, other than that, it was a nice little place, with cable, a fridge.
At Arco Iris, we had a kitchenet and AC, food in roatan it's sooooo expensive, and there is like no cheap seafood, and island with no affordable seafood? We had to wait 3 days for this small, local restaurant to get fish and when it did, we paid $10 for it!
For breakfast we will have peanut butter and jelly on coconut bread, even the street vendors were pricey here.
We also payed a visit to Coax Hole, the supermarket there is cheaper, so we got tons of cookies and other snacks to get us through. The shakes there were considerable cheaper $1 compare to $3 at west end, same quality!
