rio during carnival is crazy. there is literaly a party on every block and no one goes to sleep until the sun comes up the next morning. everyone was so friendly too. going to carnival in the samba dome was so awsome!! ive never seen anything like it. i mean, i go to the gay pride parade in san francisco every year and i thought that was crazy. this was insane. some of the floats at the carnival stadium had actual working waterfalls. i recommend that if you do want to go to the carnival in the samba dome you buy tickets a year in advance. the presale is ushally 70usd, but if you want to buy last minute it will cost you a good 350usd minimum. and dont be fooled by scalpers. they only sell you passes to go in the intermission area. the parade goes for, i think, 3 days and each parade is 8 hours long.
the only thing that sucked about going to rio during carnival is that everythings closed. its kind of like christmas in the states. malls and stores all closed. to me, shopping and browsing is a big part of the travel experience.the only thing that was open was this chain called bobs burgers. haha. i laugh cause this is like the starbucks of rio. there is one on every corner.
me and my friend went to this street party near ipanema beach. it was a drag party i think. and it was really wild. the drag queens are halarious. i have one pic of one dressed as wonder woman. we asked take a picture with her but instead she sprawled herself on the floor making all types of sexy posses. it was really funny.
you know i heard alot about brazil being dangerious but really, i think it isnt. considering that there is alot of poverty in this country i think there is a certian amount of extra respect you should have.i meaning walking around covered in gold and wearing you best prada bag would not only be very rude to the starving children on the street, but it would also make you bait. but other then that i think this place is great!
