Every time my son visits me here in Brussels, we try to visit some new places outside Brussels and this day we decided to go to Köln which is 1½ hour drive from Brussels or 177 km.
It was a grey day with dust rain in the air but the road conditions were great and there was not much traffic, so we managed to get there soon after we decided to go.
We arrived late afternoon there and parked the car beneath the Kölner Dom which is an impressive church; it is almost always looking dark and is covering up all the wonderful details with its darkness. I have often wondered how impressive it would look like, if it was standing there white like when it was built. When you see it in sunshine it gives another impression.
Köln was almost all dressed up for Christmas, but their famous Christmas market was not opened yet. The streets were full of people and the number of clothing shop in the city centre is remarkable; it must a dream city for all clothes shoppers.
We walked the streets and enjoyed the light from all the shops and all the happy people walking around with their full bags. We did so for 3 hours before we went in and had a huge steak at the Chicago Steakhouse. The meal was more huge than delicious but we were hungry and tired in our feet so we were happy when we left after 1½ hour.
