November in Ixelles
Today I went for a walk in my neighbourhood. Living just next to Loizelaan or Avenu Louise is a luxury in a town like Brussels because I am close to many of the things that I like about this city. I live only 400 meters for Place Chatelain which I think is the most cosy spot on a sunny day or in the Wednesday evening when the local market comes there. This is a small part of the city but you fell you are in some of the best parts of Paris.
Like any large city you will find shops that are open on a Sunday like this but I have to say that from that point Brussels is very closed compared to many of the other capitols I have visited. Here the east European cities show a much bigger flexibility. This is a point where Brussels seem to lack beyond on.
Brussels have many different neighbourhoods - you just turn around a corner and you are in another city. This is also a big charm of this little capital. You have the EU quarter, Moroccan, African, Chinese, Expats, Business, Univercity and so on. Many of these quarters are situated many places in the city.
The city is also marked, by the fact that 600.000 of the people who work here live outside of the city, which actually make the city poor compared to many other capitals - and this is not a country that supports its capital like France. From that point the city can look used and many of the other cities in Belgium are much better to preserve their cultural inheritance. But I have become to love this city and every time I walk around in a special neighbourhood of this city I feel more rich and lucky to be here.
