Mira Public Observatory, Grimbergen, Belgium
Together with some colleagues I visited the Mira Public Observatory in Grimbergen just outside Brussels. Grimbergen is mostly famous for its great beer and locally the Christmas market every December.
The Observatory is situated in the middle of the city not far away from the church and like many old observatories the city development has caught up with them; the places are not anymore ideal for star watch due to the city light.
We had a very enthusiastic tour guide and I have always been fascinated by people who truly love what they are doing and this guy was one of them.
We were fairly unlucky with the evening that we had chosen since the clouds were hanging low but never the less we had an interesting tour.

BRASSERIE HET FENIKSHOF
Just next to the public observatory in Grimbergen you can find the Restaurant Het Fenikshof. The restaurant is design in a modern look but still retaining some cosiness. The colours are kept in stylish brown and grey nuances. The tables are well decorated and chairs are nice to sit in.
The waiters were fast and in a good mode, always with a smile. The food was great; I had a tuna carpaccio with was really delicious and followed by a filet pure that melted in my mouth. All the wonderful food I had accompanied with the local beer; Grimbergen Blonde which to me is a wonderful beer, especially if it comes from the tap.
The restaurant was a very nice place to stay if you are driving around in the outskirts of Brussels and maybe searching for the hometown of one of the great belgian beers or the Christmas market in December.

Hotel Abbey
This beautiful hotel is situated in the outskirt of Grimbergen; Kerkeblokstraat 5, which is again 10 km from Brussels.
The hotel is small and kept in a very cosy style, respecting the exteriour. The hotel hosts in all 28 rooms and suites each decorated and furnished in an individual style; you can ask to see some (if they have free rooms) in order to see which fits you the best.
Besides being a hotel the place hosts an excellent restaurant; 't Wit Paard which serves great traditional belgian food.
The hotel is an old mansion and kept in that style throughout all its interior. In the summertime you can also enjoy their garden which is very nice.
The staff is very professional and have a very good attention on details.
It was a very pleasant stay.
