The white cliffs of Dover

Dover Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I only was a short time in South East England, but it was memorable. The most beautiful thing I remember of it are the cliffs in Dover and the Canterbury cathedral. Truly magnificent!

The white cliffs of Dover

We visited Dover today. Mainly what we did was viewing the Castle and spending the day walking by the cliffs. These are incredible, both from beneath them as on top of them. The weather was nice and clear, so we could see the cliffs of France far on the horizon.

I couldn't help singing 'The white cliffs of Dover" all day long... Terrible when a song like that just pops up in your had and refuses to leave. Yet it was appropriate, of course. I believe it used to be a song for the soldiers during world war 2. Anyway, it's famous. Lyrics go like this:

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see.

There'll be joy and laughter
And peace ever after,
Tomorrow
When the world is free,

The shepherd will count his sheep
The valleys will bloom again,
And Jimmy will go to sleep
In his own little room again,

There'll be bluebirds over
The white cliffs of Dover,
Tomorrow
Just you wait and see.

Every time I see a picture of the Dover cliffs this song starts playing in my head,... so the view certainly made some impression to me :)
