The Trip
This weekend was a whirl wind of activity. Four of us and two dogs packed up into two cars and took the 3 hour drive to Atlanta. The last 30 miles are dirt road and are pretty tough at points, but we got there. Atlanta is an old mining town, apparently the mines closed and the 1940’s and it hasn’t been much of a town since. There aren’t any services up there, there used to be a store and 4 bars but now there is nothing. The nearest gas is back in Idaho City. It’s kind of an eerie ‘scary movie’ town, still decorated with Christmas décor, it’s funny. We played on the play ground at the town hall, school, library, church, etc. building. Other than that we weren’t really in town long.
The first night we stayed in the Power Plant camp ground. They have toilets, water, fire pits and tables. It’s actually a pretty nice set up, I was surprised. We visited two Hot Springs on Thursday: Atlanta & Chattanooga.
The second day we visited five Springs: Greylock, Phifer, Granite Creek, Dutch Frank & Brown’s Creek. Also three more friends came up to share the weekend adventure with us.
The third day we visited three springs: Neinmeyer, Pete Creek & Loftus.
And finally the fourth day we visited our last two springs and headed home. The two springs were: Smiths Cabin & Sheep Creek Bridge. We just continued on down the road we’ve been on this entire time which passes the Dam and shoots us back out by Lucky Peak Dam.
What a great trip!
