Nienmeyer Hot Springs

A 4 day trip with 7 friends visiting 12 Hot Springs in the Atlanta Area of Idaho. Amazingness pretty much sums it up!
Nienmeyer Hot Springs
If you have time, might as well stop and check this Hot Springs out. You have to ford the river and walk around a huge pile of trees dammed in the river to find the springs. The springs source temperature is sizzling hot, don’t touch it! It runs off this tiny ledge into a huge swimming hole with river water mixed in. The pool is a little murky but a nice summer swim. There is also a rock pool on the end of the swimming hole collecting the source water, but the pool is just way too hot to sit in, maybe move a few rocks around to get a mix of hot and cool water.

If you head over to enjoy these great springs, please do your part to keep it cleaner than when you got there! Bring a trash bag just in case, thanks!

Getting there:
From Atlanta take the Middle Fork Road (268) about 30 miles downstream (5.4 miles past Brown’s Creek). You’ll see the Nienmeyer camp at mile post 38. Park at the end of the camp ground and ford the river to the springs.

To get to these springs you need to ford the river which can only be done in the fall, we succeeded in August and it was tough. The springs are worth the river crossing. There is one small pool at the bottom of the cliff that you can squeeze 5 bodies in tightly. The waterfall of spring water is scourching hot, so be careful. Also, bring a hat to keep the annoying waterfall from splashing in your eyes the entire time.

There is also another pool at the very top of the cliff. The pool is nicly made of rock and mortar but is extremely too hot, not sure what they were thinking when they made this pool.

These springs are worth the visit!

From Atlanta take the Middle Fork Road (268) about 32 miles downstream (2.3 miles past Nienmeyer camp). Look for the springs across the river. There is no turnout, just park there on the road.

Loftus Hot Springs
Don’t go to these springs on a weekend, they will most likely be packed! These springs are very popular, for good reason. Someone put a lot of work into making these springs great. The pool is made of rock and mortar, even has built in benches. The temperature is wonderful, not too hot but not too cold!

The only down side is how popular this place is. The parking area is a huge dusty dirt hole and often ‘trashy’ people are camped here. Also, I’ve heard there is poison ivy near, so keep an eye out.
