My sis and the dog that was with us picking fossiles
Many maaaany years ago, the island of Svalbard used to be down by the equator, but it has constantly moved north. And it is still moving towards the north pole. But because it used to be located further south, one can find lots of plant fossils under the glaciers. So if you go up to where the glacier starts, one can find lots of these fossils, since the glacier has melted and pulled back over the years. And you can even bring them home!

So this day we went on a guided tour to pick fossils! One always have to bring a guide going on these trips in case you meet a polar bear. Unless you have permission to shoot one yourself!

We met up with our guide and started walking up to the glacier above Longyear City. After walking for about an hour, we reached it and started looking for fossils - and we found plenty!! I even brought one small piece home, just as a souvernir ;)
Tired of walking and picking fossiles, we returned a few hours later, and on our way home, we stopped by the art exhibition.
She was a retired Greenland sledge dog, 12 years old!
Lot's of nice pictures and paintings of Svalbard there!

After a quick shower and a power nap, we went to do some sightseeing with Sigmund in his car. We went to the global seed vault, the church, the water storage +++
Nice to be guided by a local!!

This was our last day at Svalbard, and we were all kind of tired after a long week of experiences and at least after the walk on the glacier the last day! Had an early dinner before we crashed in our beds. We left early the next morning, and I am determined to go back some day! That's for sure!!
